If you have been on any social media platform for any length of time, you have probably run into “Pitchy McPitchster”. He’s someone you just connected with and without learning anything about you, without gaining any trust, he just pitches you his business right off the bat. This is not the right way to do try to do business online and it hurts the industry as a whole. The chances of expanding your business this way are pretty pathetic, and pretty much EVERYONE finds it annoying.

Online Network Marketing Strategies #1 Claim Your Real Estate!
Whether it’s your real name or something else you would like to be know by online, make sure to claim your web domain right away. Even if you don’t plan on doing anything with it any time soon, you will want to make sure it’s available to you in the future. You also want to claim your “vanity” url for all the various social media platforms, even though you won’t be using them all right away.
A vanity url is a url that has your name instead of an account number in it. It is much easier to use in directing traffic to your page instead of a random long number. Example: www.facebook.com/ToddAndLeahRae instead of www.facebook.com/1548158455
Online Network Marketing Strategies #2 Choose Your Main Platform
With online marketing, there are a TON of directions available from all of the various social media platforms, to blogging, YouTube, & paid ads. Choose a main focus and spend most of your time on that. Now, some experts in the industry will recommend just focusing on one thing, like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
I do agree you need to have a focus, but don’t put all your eggs into one basket. And I say this for one reason only…if you are using social media, you don’t own your account and they can and WILL shut you down at any time, so it’s nice to have a back up (be especially careful with Facebook).
So this may look like 65% of your time with Twitter & 35% of your time with Instagram, or 70% on your blog & 30% with Twitter, building a following & sharing blog posts. Online Network Marketing Strategies #3 Are your profiles filled out in a professional manner?
Make sure you have a professional looking picture as your profile pic & that you are in your banner picture as well. WAY too many people use their company logos or something else on their profiles. People want to see that you are a real person. Also, how do you look in your picture? Do you look like someone people will want to follow? You need to.
It is also great to sync your pictures and theme colors between the various platforms you use. Then, it will be easier for people to recognize you and for you to stand out. Need help creating a professional looking banner? Check out www.fiverr.com. They can put it together for you for 5 bucks.
Online Network Marketing Strategies #4 Read the Policies & Procedures
This can really kick you in the butt, especially on Facebook where they really crack down on people. So it’s imperative that you learn the rules of the social media platforms you plan to use. Then, work hard to stick within their guidelines. There is nothing fun about investing your time and sometimes money into an account just to have it shut down.
Online Network Marketing Strategies #5 Start Building Your “Funnel”
In order to utilize the power of social media to the fullest and recruit like the pros, you will need to build a “funnel” – a system of presenting an offer to an audience, getting them to provide their contact information in exchange for something they want, following up with them, and converting them into a sale or sign-up. I will explain this in more detail in Network Marketing Strategies: How to Build Online – Part 2, but here are the basics…
- To build this funnel, you will need a “Lead Magnet” – something you can offer in exchange for a prospect’s contact information. You can either create your own or use “Private Label Rights” content.
- You will also need a capture page service – a page with an opt-in form where a prospect will enter their name, email, and sometimes phone number in order to access the lead magnet. LeadPages is a very popular service.
- An optional (but highly recommended) part to this funnel is an email marketing system such as Aweber, MailChimp, GetResponse, iContact, Infusionsoft, etc. You will use this to store and organize contact information of the leads you get as well as send and schedule emails.
There are several companies that can provide these services for you or help you create your own. We LOVE the company we use as it offers a great all-in-one system for less than the cost of getting all of these components separately. Plus, they offer the training and support to go along with it.
