Ok…it’s time for another big wakeup call. There are many things that can hold you back from succeeding in your Network Marketing businesses. One of those things that REALLY holds us back is clinging to some commonly held myths about Network Marketing.

Some of these MLM myths are fairly harmless, but other MLM myths can seriously prevent you from succeeding in your business.

So here are 3 of the biggest MLM myths that you need to let go of before you can start experiencing some success in your business…

MLM Myths #1 – Your Products Sell Themselves

Nope. Sorry, but they don’t.

If they did, your company wouldn’t need you or anyone else to market their products for them.

The fact of the matter is that in Network Marketing, people don’t buy from your company, and people don’t sign up with your company.

People buy from and join other people. It’s a PEOPLE business.

No one joined their company because they actively searched for the best Network Marketing company with the best products and the best compensation plan. And then once they found that company, they didn’t interview a bunch of distributors to find out who would be the best sponsor.

Everyone joined their Network Marketing company because someone they know, like, and trust asked them to join. Think about it. If a different person who you don’t know, like, or trust asked you to join the same company you’re in now, would you really have joined?

Whether it was a family member or a friend, or even someone you just met. The main reason why anyone decides to join a Network Marketing company is because you got a personal invitation from a person who built up a bunch of trust and rapport with you.

MLM Myths #2 – You Need To Be Good At Sales

Nope again! Sorry.

Sales skills are great to have, but they really aren’t necessary in Network Marketing.

Your job is NOT to sell people on your products or your opportunity. Your presentation video and sales aids do most of that for you.

Have you ever heard the phrase ‘amateurs convince, professionals sort’? It basically means that amateurs in the Network Marketing business will spend a bunch of time trying to convince just a few people to join…in other words, they’re trying to SELL people on the opportunity.

Professionals, on the other hand, put the opportunity in front of as many people as possible, and only work with the ones who are excited and ready to join. What they are doing is called marketing.

Your job is simply to put your opportunity in front of as many people as possible. That’s why skills like lead generation are much more important to success than any sales skill you might have.

MLM Myths #3 – Network Marketing is EASY

Oh My Goodness, NO!

I’m not sure I really need to explain this, but if you’re just starting out in Network Marketing, you need to understand that Network Marketing is a very simple concept, but it is by no means easy. In fact, it is a lot of work. But it is work that will pay off big time if you stick with it.

Your Network Marketing business is a real business that you own. You are solely responsible for the success or failure of your business.

And just like traditional businesses, most Network Marketing businesses fail. However, the reason for failure is different. Traditional businesses go out of business because they run out of money. Network Marketing businesses go out of businesses because people quit.

The main reason why people quit is because they talked to all of their family and friends about their opportunity and everyone (or almost everyone) said no, and now they’ve run out of people to talk to.

If you’re at that point in your Network Marketing business and you are determined to succeed but don’t know what to do next, I would highly suggest (at a minimum) looking into a training course on lead generation.

    Being good at sales definitely helps. While this is much different than traditional selling, you still need to be able to look someone in the eye and ask them to buy. If you can’t do that you won’t make it long in our industry. Also, this business is simple, but far from easy. Great write up in your post.
