Avoiding The Deadly “Shiny Object Syndrome”
“Shiny Object Syndrome” is a disease that has crippled thousands upon thousands of Network Marketing businesses. It is highly contagious and is spread not only through physical contact, but also through your Smartphone and computer.
Now, obviously, this isn’t literally a communicable disease. But it is something that can catch on from person to person.
Every time you hear about the latest and greatest lead generation strategy or recruiting method, you are in danger of catching Shiny Object Syndrome.
What Is Shiny Object Syndrome?
Shiny Object Syndrome is a phrase used to describe the way business owners get distracted and lose their focus whenever an exciting new marketing strategy, tool, or opportunity comes along.
What makes this so crippling to businesses is that it diverts attention and focus away from your current marketing strategy before you are able to make significant progress with it.
And just as you’re starting to gain some traction with your new marketing strategy, boom…another shiny object comes along to distract you again.
Our Battle With The Disease…
Admittedly, Leah Rae and I suffered from this when we first started online marketing. First it was blogging and Facebook Ads, then it was Instagram, and then Twitter, and then we got into Solo Ads, we even experimented with Google Plus for a while…
And we did that all within our first few months online.
Even for two people, it was too much to handle. And while we were mildly successful with some of our marketing strategies, we never really become proficient at any of them. Consequently, we never got the big time momentum we needed to really take off with a strategy and build our business with it.
Why You Need To Focus
The big issue with spreading yourself too thin like this is that you never really master any one lead generation strategy.
For example, with Twitter, we were growing a large audience of thousands of people a month, but getting very few leads from it. But since we were also blogging and doing Instagram and Facebook and Solo Ads, we never had the time to really figure out how to increase our lead flow from Twitter.
Now, once we did stop and focus on Twitter, things turned around very quickly. Almost overnight, we went from generating fewer than 5 leads per day with Twitter to consistently bringing in 10 to 20+ leads per day.
What To Focus On
Part of the reason why Shiny Object Syndrome is so easy to catch when you’re new to online marketing is because you probably don’t know what is going to work for you and you’re not sure what you should be focusing on.
When Leah Rae and I were starting, we were just trying a little bit of everything to see what would stick, but nothing really did…at least, not until we started focusing on one strategy at a time.
If you’re looking for a lead generation strategy that will stick, then I highly recommend this free training course that shows you exactly how we bring in 10-20+ leads per day on Twitter.
